A Drawing a Day

…Keeps pandemic stress away? That’s the goal.

Two weeks into working from home, I’ve been feeling anxious, cooped up in the house day and night reading all the no good very bad news. (See: https://medium.com/scribe/short-of-breath-12d3189275fd)

To keep myself from spiraling into nervous despair, I needed to institute a new distracting, self-calming activity: daily drawings!

Each day’s illustration is commissioned by someone from my far-flung community of fellow self-isolators. I put out a call for submissions: texting family members, Zooming with friends, and posting on Facebook. A dozen suggestions poured in by the end of the first day. Thanks, everyone!

The first two requests came from my niece and nephew. Without further ado…

Day 1: “A face that’s sticking out its tongue.”

Commissioned by my 5-year-old nephew, March 29.

A black-and-white pencil sketch of Albert Einstein’s classic tongue-out photo.

Also Day 1: “A rainbow unicorn.”

Commissioned by my 8-year-old niece, March 29.
